Reenactment Cemetery
We dressed the day’s dead in civil war uniforms.
Pristine replica uniforms actually.
We inserted folded, hand written letters
into their breast pockets.
Period bibles and playing cards
even though soldiers tossed cards away before battle.
A couple silver flask bottles we provided
to the two men we attired as braided officers.
No sidearms or muskets were included.
Dora thought to smudge dirt and gunpowder on calloused fingers.
We took General Thomas’ advice
and mixed them up, instead of plotting them by state.
