When we heard Allen died,
we assumed it was a bullet through the head,
a suicide, not surprising
since he was an acting student and poet.
When we learned Allen died
by a car through the head and body,
a drunk driver ignoring a stop sign,
his death became an unexpected tragedy.
When we learned the driver that killed Allen
took her own life a week later,
we were surprised to learn the drunk was a woman,
because we assumed the drunk to be a man.
When we learned the woman was a poet
with fearful sorrow, madness and depression
and sometimes acted in community theater
it all made sense again.
