Water of Closure

Crazy Lady Creek turned to whiskey last Tuesday.
All the trout died of alcohol poisoning.

A miracle, the Outback Picayune headlined
after the editor sipped the oak-leaf-tannin-stained liquid.

Tour companies sprang into existence overnight.
Three blind locals applied to be wilderness guides.

The forest muffled drinking songs all summer long.
Come winter, the creek did not freeze.

Too many people proclaimed, This is the love we prayed for.
All the bars shuttered their doors.
