Fortune

Paul scavenges yard sales,
seeks silverware sold cheap,
especially spoons.

He collects phone numbers
from the newspaper personals
and notices.

Paul steals the nearsightedness
of a thousand grandmothers,
then dumps the blur down the drain.

He developed a nursing sign
that stops nosebleeds
and paper-cut trickles.

Paul prays for fortune
to keep people on a short leash and heavy-footed
while running from responsibility.
