Cut by a piece of paper
a droplet of blood swells
into a circular dome
over the straight line
of the wound.
Its spread interrupted by
the natural ridges and troughs
(and wrinkles) in aging skin.
I have read that
people who get blood transfusions
eventually have a mixing
of DNA from the donor
and the receiver
where both sets of DNA
are carried and
(to an unspecified degree) merge.
I guess mosquitos
live too brief of lives
for the blood they suck out of me
to cause them to change
though I wonder
if this DNA transfer effect
was the reason the Greek gods
and monsters
bore such varying progeny.
