Paul resolved to love.
It was not a New Year’s resolution.
It was a first person singular
promise to humanity.
He told no one
so no one questioned him.
The resolution became
part of his first breath each morning
so he knew it was not
an impulse or dare.
He decided this love
had no room for ignorance.
Paul noticed
he was noticed less often.
After a time he realized
his resolution turned into devotion.
Not to one person
or group of neighbors
or church congregation
but to every moment.
