When he felt grieved
Paul purchased a bucket of KFC chicken
and ate until he was stuffed.
When he realized he felt grieved
about the colonel’s death
and the loss of a full business name
he lay his head to the pillow
with his face to the left end
and counted threads in his bedsheets.
He counted three different times
and came up with two-ninety-seven
three-o-one and three-twelve.
Paul got up, went to his mailbox
and found discount coupon cards
for KFC, Maine Heritage Weavers and Nest Bedding.
