Revive the memory of Bleeding Kansas.
It is under a headstone and pertinent to today.
People whiten knuckles around gun stocks.
Pickup trucks overflow with self-proclaimed militiamen.
To see their faces as they drive by is to blanch.
Such hatred. Such underlying pain and fear.
Their primacy falling like so much snow—
but not so much to bury everything.
In which state will a water course gain infamy
like Pottawatomie or Sand Creek?
